Here’s a bit of Al from Bob Ayala’s 1976 recording of “Joy By Surpriseâ€. Something about Al’s style often reminds me of Tom Brumley, but clearly unique.

Al is a Christian. Listen to Ever Call Ready, Mike. This song is great!

Yes, I have it on a cassette! Thoroughly uplifting, and some of the best bluegrass by some of the best players.
Seems like Al’s really into lap steel these days, but I’d love to hear more psg.

If you can find a copy of the old album "Pacific Steel Company" there are two cuts by Al that are excellent. That album also has cuts by Tom Brumley, Jay Dee Maness, Red Rhodes, and Sneaky Pete.

I'm definitely interested in that.

b0b has the cassette in the forum store. Maybe you can have it converted to CD or MP3 etc. It's a dandy too.

Thanks Ken and Joachim….. that’s what I’m talking’ about. Your clip is one of the best, and then there’s that killer string bender from Bob Warford in there!
Here’s another thread with some great “Alâ€

That’s great Ken, thanks. Just found this one of Al playing on a Great Plains track…

That’s Jack Sundrud singing, who went on to play bass with Poco. Great Plains was so great. Why they didn’t make it is just a mystery. Same with The Sky Kings….

Good stuff by Al.
Great Plains was so great. Why they didn’t make it is just a mystery.
Jack Sundrud explains it here -
