Do you need to use a reverb-bag if mounting a reverb vertically?
The unit's open side is against the amp's wall and incorporates low, nylon stand-offs for the mounting screws.
I'm not sure how you could use a reverb-bag without poking holes through it for the mounting screws and then align them up with the reverb's mounting holes (which is now in the bag). I not convinced it's worth the trouble unless there's a positive need for the bag. |

I don't recall ever seeing a vertically mounted reverb tank in a bag. And many horizontally mounted tanks don't have them either. Offhand, I can't think of any amps, aside from the '60s - '70s Fenders and their reissues, that use a reverb bag. I'm probably forgetting some. But the bag certainly isn't critical.
The tank itself is somewhat sensitive to mounting position because of the inner tray's spring suspension, the little springs at each of the four corners. The inner tray sags slightly in the "down" direction, so the factory adjusts the tray's suspension for a particular mounting position. There's usually an array of small holes for each corner spring, to provide options for adjusting. You can tell if the suspension is adjusted correctly by looking inside at the stop post while holding the tank in its intended mounting position. The post should be centered, or nearly so, in the tray's hole. But this adjustment only affects how easily the tank will crash when jiggled; it doesn't affect the sound otherwise, so it's not especially important. |

Hi Bruce,
Thanks for the reply.
My new tank is built for vertical mounting, so there should be no problem with the spring suspension.
The old tank's transducers finally started to malfunction. |

My Nashville mounts in a bag which holds a piece of carboard covering the electronics on the bottom.
They just used a couple screws trough the bag itself rather than through the tank.
If your unit is built for vertical mounting, I should think the same bag mounting would work but with probably 2 screws on either end. |
