I seek suggestions for a clamp-on tuner with clamp big enough for thick bodies.

How thick are we talking about? I usually use a Boss tuning pedal in situations where a clip on tuner doesn't clip on.

Clamp it to anything. Tuner knob, volume knob, whatever will fit. Doesn’t have to be the whole body.

I have clamped my stroboclip to the cord jack and it worked

When tuning my Studio Deluxe (Deluxe 8's little brother), I temporarily clamp to the tone control. When I'm done, I re-clamp the tuner to the Deluxe34 bar and pick holder that hangs off one of the back legs. Works for me...
