Nashville Tennessee Steel Guitar Association Show

Post by Billy Easton »

At long last, plans for the NTSGA show are coming together. Today I signed a contract with the VFW Post 1291 for a one day show on Saturday, OCTOBER 16, 2021.
We lost our traditional venue, American Legion Post 88, due to it being sold and replaced by a hotel. Of course COVID 19 has held us captive for at least 18 months.

Musicians are being contacted for availability, but I am sure you will not be disappointed. As soon as I get a schedule together it will be published. We will start at 11:00 am and play continually till 11:00 pm. There is a bar in another part of the building that will serve sandwiches in addition to beer, wine, and spirits.

Admission is $20 per person, to help offset the cost of the show. We are a 501c3 non-profit corporation and depend on income from the admission to finance the show.

Please come help support the Steel Guitar in Nashville!!

I inadvertently omitted Mike Sweeney’s name from the confirmed players list. Yes, Mike will be playing and he will have CDs and Instructional materials available for sale! Come and enjoy the best of Nashville.
Sorry to have left you off the list, Mike!

Questions for Billy

Post by Alan Struthers »

We will start at 11:00 am and play continually till 11:00 pm.

EDIT: I clearly don't know how to use the "quote" feature. The rest of this post is from me and not quoted from anybody.

Billy, I am new to these events so could I ask a few questions?
  • Is this a 12-hour performance with opportunities to speak to the performers and buy teaching materials? That is what I think it is.
Or is this a jam, where attendees bring their steels and play together or in rotation? I'm far too new at this to jam in public, but I'd like to know.
Is there any advantage to bringing an instrument at all (especially since I probably won't be using it)?
Are the performances geared toward instruction or toward offering good music? (Either is good, but I could benefit from instruction.)
Are there break-out sessions on particular topics such as tunings?
Are instrument dealers there so that players can see and try instruments?

Thank you for your help in letting me understand this. I was planning a trip to Nashville in November, but I'm considering moving it up to take advantage of this show.

    Best,
    Alan

NTSGA show

Post by Manfred Schall »

Hi Alan,
I attended the last show about 2 years ago.
It was a nice great little show with lot of good music and people. Looks like a bunch of great players this time, too.
No instrument needed. No instruction.
This might be different this year due to that Mike Sweeney will be there. He is a great teacher (probably not at the show) and has enough instruction material to cover you busy for a while. Maybe some other guy will show up with some guitars (Johnie King?) but I don't know.
Anyway if I were in the US I would go. :)
Enjoy.

Cheers,
Manfred

Hi Billy,
Will we have designated hotel & group rates or,
do we need to select our own hotel ?
Any recommendations in VFW area ?
Thank you & have a great day.

Billy

Looks like a great lineup as always.

Wish we could be there but the Northern border is still closed due to the Covid deal.

I will have to settle for a recorded version of your "Steel Guitar Heaven" this year.

Have a great show.
