Happy to report that every steel guitarist's friend Clem is resting comfortably at home after receiving a new Medtronics pacemaker at the VA hospital in Minneapolis.

Glad to hear our friend, Clem is back at home now. May his recovery be quick and I hope he is resting comfortably.

I reached out to him on the phone with questions about Emmons push-pull guitars in the early 80s. He was always friendly and very generous with his time. If it weren't for him, I may have never gotten involved, so I am forever in his debt!
Best regards,
Lynn Stafford

I talk with Clem fairly often. Though we have never met in person I feel like we have. He has helped me immeasurably with parts and advice, and has shared many great stories :)

His wife Joanie has had some ongoing health issues as well, and I have kept them both in my prayers.

As my pal Tiny Olson would say, "Clem is a darn good horse!"

Has anyone heard from Clem recently? I ordered his book and DVD from ebay a week ago and haven't had any kind of response. I also tried his comcast email with no reply yet.

Clem has been in the Minneapolis VA Hospital for several weeks. COVID almost got him but he’s a tough one! There have been a couple setbacks though, but he’s improving. I spoke to him yesterday and he sounds good! He hopes to be home in another week or so. He’s doing some PT to get his strength back. After he gets home we’ll figure a way to get him into the 21st Century with something other than his flip phone so he can stay connected.

As you can see by the above photo where Clem is standing next to Buddy, Clem is a tall man.

And the biggest part of 'Clem the tall man' is Clem's Huge Heart.

I sincerely hope Clem continues to improve and his big improved heart keeps pumping for many many years to come.

Clem Schmitz is a real treasure of a man, and I'm truly grateful that our paths have been able to cross.

I genuinely look forward to more visits and conversations.

Best Regards Clem !

Has anyone heard from Clem lately? Wondering how he's doing. A couple of recent emails have not been returned, which is unusual for Clem. He usually got back to me within minutes.
Hoping everything is good up in Crystal.

He called me last Saturday and we chatted for awhile. He’s still dealing with some health issues but had a good checkup from the VA. He said he has some parts to build but it’s been pretty cold in the garage.

Thanks for the updates, guys. That whooshing sound you may have heard emitting from southern Arizona was my huge sigh of relief. And I know very well that the weather up in Minnie is not conducive to working in an unheated garage in early March.

Friends of Clem Schmitz -

I had a very brief telelphone conversation with Clem this past Sunday.

After I noticed his caller ID on my phone, I answered and said "It's great to hear from you",

'in his typical fashion, Clem replied "It's great to be heard."

We fondly reminesced about first meeting each other in 2014 at a 45RPM show (Mike and Joannie Johnson's group) at Nashville's Station Inn.

Clem is truly a treasure for the PSG Community, remains in good spirits, and I continued to wish him all the Very Best.

Saw Clem yesterday. , I bought some parts from him and we met at the hardware store near my house. Clem was out and about, wheeling and dealing, I was one of several stops he was making, but still took the time to have a nice chat, tell some stories, etc. . He was driving himself, looked good, and told me he “ FELT GREAT” .
