LapSteel strings on resonator?

I would like to try out different tunings on my square neck resonator. Stock string sets don’t match up.How about using lap steel guitar strings? I have had good luck with cobra coil strings from steel guitar Nashville. They will sell single strings, and I can make up my own set. Any ideas about that?

Lots of places sell acoustic appropriate singles online. Check "Just Strings".

You can use lapsteel appropriate formulations in a pinch but those formulations (nickel, stainless, etc) might not have the tonal characteristics you desire.

Worst thing that'll happen is that you'll blow $6-10 on strings you don't care for.

The word is that Steel Guitar Nashville moved to Texas somewhere but has gone silent since. Someone else was searching for Cobra Coils with no success. There are a few threads here if you want to search around.

Check with b0b's store here. He sells lap steel sets and I believe you can find singles too.

There are all kinds of online string vendors if you need a wider selection.

I use standard nickel wrap strings on my acoustic (and Reso) steels because I am using magnetic pickups, Not terribly keen on stainless.

Thanks
