New Player... Fessenden Six Shooter...

Greetings!

I'm new to the pedal steel and just purchased a
Fessenden Six Shooter...a six string model with 2 pedals..
The tuning is all too familiar BUT how can I grow this
into my eventual move to a 10 stringer?

Tuning 1-6 G#, E, B, G#, E, B
Pedal 1 raises the B's to C# , Pedal 2 raises the G#'s to A

Thanks for any thoughts you might share..

One idea would be to tune strings 5 and 6 to 5=F# and 6=E.
That way you basically have the middle 6 strings of a 10 String E9 tuning.

Another possibility is to tune 5=E and 6=D. This would give you an easy way to play 7th chords in open position similar to strings 8 and 9 on an S10 E9.

Does it have any knee levers?

My advise is to not wait. Sell the six shooter, maybe Jerry will take it back in trade,) and get a 10 string with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers now.

Mike's right. The six-shooter has some(but not all) of what you want in a 3X4 10 string, and would probably be OK for gigs where you need steel 1 or 2 songs a night, but you'd outgrow it fairly soon if you were to get really involved in playing steel....

The odds are overwhelmingly in favor of getting involved! ;-)

Thanks so much!

I've had the six shooter for roughly 24 hours and and hooked...
I'll work my way out of this and get a 10..
BTW: I'd love to get another Fessenden..

This is the painful results LOL

Haven't given up on the 6 shooter Fessenden BUT
I did find a steal on a steel "Fender-Bud"...

It's a marked difference between the 6-shooter AND
it's been a smooth transition...
