Hi all!
I was given a Peavey MX 112 amp that didn’t power up. After a few minutes of fiddling around I figured out it just needs a new fuse socket! Should be an easy fix. Any hints on where best to buy a new fuse socket?
It seems to be a very obscure amp, with only a couple of rare mentions online. It’s hybrid solid state with 4 6L6’s for the power amp! I found the manual here:

Looks like 140 watts in 4 Ohms
With the “low power†switch it is 30 watts.
That seems like good potential for steel and guitar double duty there!
Unfortunately the original Black Widow speaker is gone and has an Eminence 12KPGP8H instead.
Anybody familiar with this amp? Would it be a good one to chop down into a head as a spare or backup amp?

The only downside (outside of the weight) is the absence of a mid-shift. Peavey amps seem voiced towards the mid ranges, so I sometimes have a problem getting a good steel tone on their amps without the mid-shift control.
All you can do is try it.  |

Somebody on here used to brag on these amps occasionally but his name escapes me.
The controls are laid out like the ones in the Bandit and Special amps of the era and those seem to have a good following here. Maybe it's a tube power section from an Artist?
I would be a little afraid of it seeing the extra switch on the back, but might be nothing more than an effects loop switch. It might be a heck of a good sounding amp. |

| Joe..The three position switch may be an after market standby unit. The 'Artist' amp has the 'Standby' mounted on the front panel, your amp appears to have the attenuator switch in that spot. |

Well I got the new fuse socket installed and it works! The aftermarket switch appears to allow switching between the clean and overdrive channel without the foot switch.
It seems to work but it seems quieter and more easily distorted than I would expect. Will check out a different speaker when I get a longer speaker cord soldered together! |
