Joe Turner

Post by Jerry Overstreet »

Last evening PBS Tim White's Song of the Mountains music show had South Carolina's Joe Turner with the Malpass Brothers. Joe playing great pedal steel on that red Marlen 12. Great tone, great player.

I first saw Joe at the ISGC several years ago playing that samd red Marlen. Everybody was wowed by his set. Just terrific tone and playing.

Great to hear you again and see you on TV Joe!

Joe Turner is a great player and a real class act! He was a mainstay at the Saluda/Belvedere S.C. Southern steel shows.

I haven't seen Joe for several years now. He lives maybe a few hours south of me and I used to see him at the Saluda shows.

The last time I was at St Louis I ran into Joe and we laughed, we said we saw each other more in St Louis than locally ! Thats over 700 miles away!

Joe is one fine player and a very fine guy !

Supposedly in SC small shows will begin again in Columbia late this year, which I will attend, I hope Joe also attends.

I too met Joe at the Saluda show. Best I remember, he played a Marlen and had led lights on the neck. He's a really good player.

Joe is certainly one of the best players out there today.
I am also proud to call him my friend. He worked hard at producing some of the best sound tracks for us steel players to polish up on our skills & make us better players. Thanks Joe for all you do for the steel guitar.....

I saw Joe playing at a VFW dance in Athens Georgia. Went up and talked to him about his steel guitar. Super nice guy and a great steel player. Tenn.Lee
