Topic: Tuning Mullen Royal Precision |

| I'm really new to pedal steel so please a little slack please. I bought a new Royal Precision and have tuned the open strings, my issue is when I try to tune the pedals and knees I can't turn the nylon nuts with the tuning wrench. What am I doing wrong. This is the first tuning. |

My RP(also bought new awhile back) does take a little muscle to tune the pedals, but if yours are just not moving, something is off. Failing one of the experts here doing their customary deus ex machina, you probably should consult with either Mike Mantey or the seller.
BTW the one time (in 15 years!)that I had to talk with the factory, they took excellent care of me.  |

Those things can really stick sometimes.
If they're not bottomed out (I think the Mullen uses a fully open nylon tuning nut) then they should turn.
More muscle, or maybe try a hairdryer on them? |

Go to the Williams website and get one of his. It is a "T" shaped wreck that is easier to get some torque on it. I HATE those round knurled wrenches that most use.

Stubby screwdriver, remove driver blade from handle, drill handle slightly smaller than deep 3/16” socket, force socket into handle. Small enough to keep in your pick pouch, large enough to get leverage on stiff tuning nuts. |

I play a like-new Mullen RP and my tuning hex nuts turn like butter. Something may be wrong with your guitar.

| Mullen won't send out a guitar unless it meets their high quality standards. Try turning the nylon tuners without depressing the pedals. Give it a turn and then depress the pedal to see if it is in tune, it should get easier in a short time. I had another brand that turned so hard that I removed the nylon tuner and applied a very small amount of white lithium grease on the rod threads, problem solved. |

Hi Thomas
Can you post some pictures up close of your changer fingers with the nylon tuning nuts. This way we can see if the tuning nuts are to far in or if there is Lock-Tite on the threads. I think Lock_Tite is maybe a blue color. Some manufactures put Lock-Tite on threads before shipping the product out. This could explain why your nylon tuning nuts are hard to turn...its possible. |
