End of service for Windows 10, version 1909 and others 5/11

Post by Jack Stoner »

The following was posted on the tenforums.com, today.

On May 11, 2021, the following versions and editions of Windows 10 will reach end of service:

Windows 10, version 1909: Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations and Pro Education; and Windows Server, version 1909, all editions.
Windows 10, version 1809: all editions except LTSC editions
Windows 10, version 1803 and Windows Server, version 1803: all editions

After that date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates. As always, we recommend that you update your devices to the latest version of Windows 10 as soon as possible to ensure that you can take advantage of the latest features and advanced protections from the latest security threats. For more information on end of service dates for currently supported versions of Windows 10, see the Windows 10 Home and Pro Lifecycle page, Windows 10 Enterprise and Education Lifecycle page, and Microsoft Lifecycle Policy search tool.

Is Microsoft going to push this at some point? I am not finding anything that allows updating without having to jump through a few hoops that I would rather skip.

I just updated my Windows 10 and now it don't work.
It boots up and the screen just keeps going on & off
about every 5 seconds or so and can't open any file.
I have no idea how to fix this problem. I can't even
get to system restore to remove the update now.
any help would really be appreciated.

Carl, What kind (brand & model) of computer do you have? Many computer brands have a recovery mode you can enter to recover from a non working operating system update.

Hi Jim, It's a HP Pavilion 500-336PC. I'm still working on it now.
I just reinstalled the new update again and it still
does the crap and I can't open any files at all.

Thanks for the reply.

Carl, I found this in the HP troubleshooting manual.
If Windows is not responding, but the computer is working, follow these steps to perform a system
recovery.
1. Turn off the computer. If necessary, press and hold the Power button until the computer turns
off.
2. Disconnect all peripheral devices from the computer, except the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
3. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
4. As soon as you see the initial company logo screen appear, repeatedly press F11 on your
keyboard until the Windows is Loading Files message appears on the screen.
5. Select Windows Recovery Environment.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
7. When the recovery is complete, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn
the computer back on.

Hi Jim, I finally got it working at midnight last night
after hours of trying everything. I was finally able to
delete the new Win 10 and open an old version. I lost a
lot of programs but at least it's working good again.
Thanks again for your help. Have a great weekend.

No 20H2 is the current version. The notice is for some older versions. There are people on older versions, for various reasons including the (older) Hardware is not supported in subsequent versions, software they are using is obsolete and will not work or work properly in newer versions, etc.
