I'm relatively new to playing lap steel, and I saw the Vorson models and really liked the look of them. However, everywhere that lists them is out of stock, and I can't find anything that says whether they will ever be back in stock. Does anyone know if they will ever be back, or have they been discontinued?

Seems that alot of stuff is out of stock these days, you kinda need to take what you can. Maybe just grab something to get you by until.....

I’ve seen a lot for sale on Craigslist and Marketplace, you’ll get lucky I think. Seems like a good value.

I had eyed a Vorsen a few years back and ended up buying a Gretsch G5700 and was very pleased with the quality and sound. Spends most of the time on the wall these days since I bought the pedal steel though. I would recommend the Gretsch for sure if you are looking for a new lap steel that won't break the bank.

I bought a used 8-string Vorson a while back. Decent hardware and an interesting shape but I realized that I prefer passive pickups and I never got comfortable with the wide string spacing (7/16" at the bridge,3/8" at the nut). Funny, cuz I like that spacing on a 6-string but not an 8. Here's the ad from when I sold it:

If you're looking for a new lap steel with interesting aesthetics and quality components, you might look at Rukavina or forumite Johnie King's customs. I gravitate toward a vintage look myself but I've admired their creations.

Cole Clark steels have a similar look (natural exotic wood) if that's what your looking for. I have a CC Rickenbacker styled steel and it is excellent, well worth a look.
