Mac Owens Brother of Fuzzy Owens Passed away yesterday morning April 15. Mac was a Steel Player also.His Health had been bad for some time. Mac loved his ZB that he bought from Brumle when he was building ZB steels. Rest in Peace Mac.

Billy, looks like GOD is cleaning out Bakersfield's History of Traditional Country Music Artist & Musicians. That's so The Academy Of Country Music can keep all that money to give to others and not for our History in Southern California & the State for what the neighborhood Musicians/Songwriters/ Recording Artist have done. Who really cares who we are anyway? The " WELFARE BUM " song Uncle Leo J Eiffert Jr. RIP Mac.  |

This morning was Mack's Service. They had His OL ZB out front for all the world to see. It was pretty beat up, Mack must of been pretty hard on it. I heard him play more than a few times and he could sure make it sing. He told me once that you only need one Steel when you have the best. Got to say hello to Fuzzy, Norm Hamlit, and Larry Petree. Rest in Peace Mack.

| In the 80's there was a lot of country music in Bakersfield. The Rodeway Inn started with a Sunday jam session. In no time at all it went to 7 nights a week. Since we all had day jobs we split the steel seat to Mack Owens, Eddie Crow, and my self. It worked great for many years, and was a fun place to play, and great crowds ever night. The band consisted of, drums, bass, lead guitar and pedal steel. Each night always had several sit in's. It was a great place to play and was full each night. It was a small room, but it worked out very well for all. Sure miss it. |
