Here is a Marsh Melloverb Jr. 40 watt tube amp head that Mike just built for me. He also builds an 85 watt. I love this amp. I have had just about every steel amp made except the high end ones I can't afford. This is the best sounding amp I have ever owned and it weighs maybe 25 lbs. It comes with a reverb foot pedal. You can order black or silver grille cloth. Mike's builds his amps himself to your specifications. He can put an effects loop in if you desire. He did some smart things. Both a 4 ohm and 8 ohm speaker outputs may come in handy some time. The slope back on the control panel allows you to see it while the amp is sitting on the floor. If you want even more tilt, he uses the the thick bumpers like Evans so you can add a spring loaded cabinet handle to the bottom. The large spring reverb has 3 controls. The workmanship is superb in every way, including the cabinet. What more can I say, except I want to get back to playing gigs so I can try this puppy out.

Sonny, check your PM. Mike builds each one custom depending on what you want. Price depends on the features you want. You have to contact Mike for a price quote. I think you'll be comfortable with his pricing.

Received my 'Mello-Verb Jr.' head today and must agree with George, great sounding unit. Wanted an amp that would compare in tone to my original 1964 Fender Vibrolux and upon reading that Mike bases his design on this particular amp (with a few upgrades), decided to order one, very glad that I did.

David, I'm glad you like your new Marsh amp and don't feel like I led you astray. Mike is building me an 85 watt as we speak. I have a Wheelhouse 150 speaker in route to join my JBL-D-130 and Eminence eps 15c herd of speakers. I'm excited about trying the 12" hemp Wheelhouse.

On another front, I'm meeting a guy tomorrow to take possession of a mint condition Derrell Stephens built Evans FET 500, serviced by Derrell in October. I played one of these for 22 years.
With this amp, my Evans SE 200, my new Marsh tube amp, and my 1974 Emmons bolt-on pp, if I can't get a great sound, I might as well give up.

George, I am so glad you are doing the testing of all this equipment. You're saving me a ton of money, haha. Tone chasing is a fun but frustrating and expensive habit. Hope you find that elusive tone we all want.

Had the chance to use my "Mello-verb Jr.' head (cab loaded with a JBL D-130)on a job last evening, sounded great and held its own against a rather volume heavy guitarist (in all fairness, he was accustomed to working in a rock trio format where restraint is not actually required).

Thanks David, I've got one coming in a week or so. I have an EPS 15C and a Telonics 12, so I think one of them will probably work good.

Norman, I will be able to give you a better answer in a couple of weeks. Mike is building me an 85 watt. The 40 watt was loud in my music room, but I didn't know if it would go the distance in a loud band without breaking up, so I sent it back to Mike in trade for an 85 watt. With my 40 watt, both my JBL D-130 and EPS 15-C sounded real good. I have since got a Wheelhouse 150 (12") and am really liking it with my Trace Elliott Elf micro head. I unplugged the speakers in my Evans SE 200 and FET 500 and plugged the Wheelhouse into the extension speaker jacks. I think I like the Wheelhouse better than the D-130 and eps 15 in those amps. I'm looking forward to the shootout with the 85 watt between the D-130, E-130, eps 15c, and the Wheelhouse 150.

I don't have a Marsh at the present to try the Wheelhouse, but I am confident it will sound great. I think Mike's tube Meloverb is going to sound great with just about any good speaker.
FWIW, I think the Telonics 12 will be the winner.

Thanks George, I'm looking forward to getting the Meloverb Junior and I hope the Telonics 12 sounds best with it. Let us know how the Wheelhouse sounds when you get the other head.

I had a Telonics and I know it's going to sound good. I've also had a TT-12 and a PF-350. In retrospect, I think all the 12" speakers I've had sounded better than the 15" ones with the amps I've owned (and I've owned a lot) and for the classic country I play on the E9 neck. The gold standard for tube amps is probably the early 70's Twins. The Nashville 112 is probably the most popular amp today. Both amps use 12" speakers. Paul Franklin uses 12" speakers, but what does he know about speaker sound.LOL

I don't recall you being from TN. Have you moved? Where in TN? We may be neighbors.

THAT is a good deal...he'll take a trade.. I talked with you at length about this because that's what I have from Mike Marsh...

I've used this amp for over a year, and it is one of the best tube amps I have, and I've got several including the LW 89 (excellent) and a 1973 Vibrosonic ( again one of the best steel guitar amps ever) Buddy Emmons recorded the Black album with a Twin and a push pull cut tail.. the best tone has already been achieved in my opinion, of course some may not want this "vintage" sound but to me the apex has already been achieved.. and certainly Mr. Emmons had a lot to do with it, but I have this set up as well as others and it's there..no mistake.. you got to know what you want to hear
