I've always liked the sound of his G6 tuning. The six is an E in place of the bottom G string in the bluegrass GBDGBD tuning.

I guess some of you guys “don’t get out much” - Greg made this video 10 years ago. Better late than never!
The first time I met Greg was a couple years prior to the video at one of his first gigs with The Kathy Kallick Band here in the Bay Area.
When he did this video, I think he had been playing dobro for only 5-6 years. He will surely correct me if I’m wrong.
Greg’s prior background was decades as a gigging pedal steel and banjo player. I think the combination made for an easier transition to dobro than it is for most people. Talent of course helps.
Not to mention he might have played Orange Blossom Special a couple thousand times before tackling it on his Scheerhorn.  _________________ Mark |
