I’m looking for some examples of pedal steel played with a sitar bar, or with a sitar effect. Specifically some examples from 60’s and 70’s records. Please share as many songs as you can think of! Thanks everybody! _________________ Caleb Melo |

I know this is Hal Rugg on steel and there's definitely sitar sounds on it. I think, but don't know for sure, that the sitar sound is steel, but it could be someone with an old Coral electric sitar 'cause I've played it both ways.

Whatever, I love the song and have been doing this one for a long time with a few different bands. |

I would also say that it's a Coral, never noticed it before, Dave. They sound very similar.
Here's one that Buddy Emmons played on:

This is a bit of a false alarm because the steel is so far back on the mix. But at 3:42 there is a closeup on Rusty’s hand and you can see him switching from his hex bar, which he is using for a very subtle sitar effect, over to a regular bullet. Some nice textural stuff toward the end.

There are a couple tunes from the Ghost Town album, Break Of Hearts and High Sierra, where he also does some subtle sitar bar work. |

This is in a different context, but I used the largest hex wrench I could find because I thought it sounded better than a sitar bar I had at the time.
It first appears at 31 seconds in.

Paul Franklin on a Lee Ann Womack record:

Paul's father made his sitar bar out of a 4" piece of 1/8" thick channel aluminum and ever so slightly round off all of the sharp edges with a belt sander...Took some 600 sand paper and smoothed all of the rough parts. |
