Hilo March on my Rickenbacher Frypan (Longscale Postwar)
inspired by the versions of Dick McIntire and Sol Hoopii.
The tuning I use is A Highbass (Hi to low E C#A E C# A)
After some requests I offer Tabs and Playbacks for A and G tuning for this tune and also
12th Street Rag and Lady Be Good.

We are unused to hearing those triplets today, so it is fascinating and impressive to see that style resurrected. I hear it on old recordings and seeing it done is like a magic trick.
Of course your whole arrangement and tone is great too. I love your videos. |

Beautiful playing and beautiful guitar.
Nice to see someone still using the A, high bass, tuning.

| Excellent, Really well played and beautifully recorded. Sebastian you are doing a really important job here, bringing the spotlight on these great old players who are in danger of being totally forgotten. Also recording them with modern sound equipment to bring out the best in the music. I hope you carry on with these. I am sure when the younger generation see how beautiful the steel can be played a few of them will want to pick up the instrument and learn this classic style. Brilliant! |

I have the TAB from my 1948 lessons for two marches played similarly. I'll see if I can post one following this post.

Here is the 2 page TAB for Kamiki March in the A Major tuning. Sorry I couldn't find the matching pages, but there's a small arrow on the last line indicating you go to Page 2 there. So, you play Page 1, Page 2 and back to Page 1 omitting the 3rd bar, playing the 5th.

Well, Jim and Joe, I had some success there. You play page one, go to Page 2 where the little arrow is at the bottom of Page 1, play all of page 2 and then Page 1 again ending at the 17/16 slant.
I've never recorded that on Youtube, in fact trying to find Hawaiian backup for many years is darn near impossible.
I have Nallawicki March also as a two-page tune. If anybody wishes it, just say so.

Joe, a lot of the Hawaiian music was published by Oahu for teaching Hawaiian guitar. They were huge suppliers to the industry, selling all the items, electric guitars, bars and picks, guitar stands and strings et al. They published courses in both note and TAB.
If I remember correctly, my first lesson was "You Are My Sunshine", single note with only a thumb pick, playing in the A Major tuning on a Stella guitar which the school gave you if you completed all 52 lessons at $1 per week!

Exquisite playing, Sebastian. I think when you really enjoy the old marches, you get a feeling like no other hearing them played with all the character, precision and tone that you bring to this piece. Big love!
I'd also like to second Scott's comment on the triplets: rarely heard, but the real deal - no faking THOSE notes!
