have a 9 string lap guitar that will be put on the forum for sale. have made a couple of these. 9 strings at 3/8 inch spacing works fine with an E66 10 string pickup. to get 10 strings, you have to decrease the string spacing and that is a bit tight for players who like the wider spacing for slants and single notes.

here is an audio sample of the guitar. i strung it up with extended leavitt tuning and the first melody i heard while tinkering around was the beautiful standard "spring is here". if you know this song, you know that the chords to the song are very interesting and challenging. the leavitt tuning is perfect for a song like this, with complex chords. i registered up a nice mellow tone and played with only two picks on my middle and index fingers and the other three just flesh and nail. the tuning from low to high is A C# E G Bb C D Eb F. the extended leavitt for me is never really constant. i use the 6 standard notes of the tuning and then according to the key of the song will adapt the low strings to whatever i need. was going to use a G on top, but the F worked out. i tried to play some nice chord changes and some moving lines. hope you enjoy it. click on download and have a listen. media fire is a safe site. https://www.mediafire.com/file/1oqjp85b485ex7e/02_Track_2.mp3/file

Nice playing, Bill! Great job showing what you can do with that tuning.

Good lord, that is beautiful playing.

If you put together an album of solo jazz lap steel, I will buy it.
