Banjo version of Jeff Newman

I'm wondering if anyone who plays banjo could make suggestions on instructional material for banjo that would be the equivalent of Jeff Newman's material. In other words, there is a lot of great steel guitar instruction out there, but, in my opinion, nothing quite covers what you need to know so efficiently as Jeff Newman. Is there someone who does that for banjo? I'm mainly interested in scruggs style or melodic rather than clawhammer. I've also made it through Earl Scrugg's instruction book. Thank you, Jesse.

Bill Evans and Tony Trischka come to mind for beginner/intermediate, Bella Fleck as well, but he is more advanced.

Bill Keith is the melodic master.

You might look at pegheadnation.com. They have good instruction for all levels of players.

Also, BanjoBenClark.com has a good selection of lesson tutorials.

As a Scruggs-style player myself, I found the Scruggs Corner columns and tabs by Jack Hatfield in Banjo Newsletter very helpful. They're now available in a book.

I just noticed the Hatfield Scruggs books is sold out. But it looks like you can get the same tabs directly from Jack here:

Google "Bill Knoph". I got a lot of what I play on banjo based on his 1st book. Scruggs is great for traditional stuff, Bill is more like Jeff Newman in the way he gives you things like "here is two measure of C noise". JE:-)>

Knopf.

He wrote a bunch of obscure books, all of which are very entertaining/enlightening. Most, if not all, seem to be out of print.

I'll second that for Artistworks.com. You can learn from Noam Pikelny or Tony Trischka both are awesome teachers and you have access to all the lessons from beginner to advanced. I subscribe to both. You can submit videos of you playing a lesson, song or exercise and they will review them and give you feedback. It's an awesome system and I think there may be some sort of discount for the holidays. Good luck! Terry
