Sho~Bud Square Front Rope Inlay Guitars

Post by Mike DiAlesandro »

Sho~Bud "generally" used rope inlays on their round front Professional's and Pro I and II's. It seems that they went to the diamond inlay when they started building mainly square fronts in mid 1974.

I happened across a 76' Pro II with a 2-1 changer, and it has rope inlay, and I also noticed a recent LDG that had it as well, and it was from the Gretch era.

How about some photos of any more of these interesting Buds, Thanks!

Those are really handsome guitars!!!

These kinds of pictures get me sentimental about the old ‘Bud I used to have.

Beautiful guitars.

I hope Jon checked the string on that volume pedal.

I'll bet he did.

Don't get me started!! Yeah, I went in three times and it still is not right. I've done this before so I'm not a beginner but man......this is like my 3rd string backup (no pun....) so I'm not in a hurry to go back in again.

Sho-Bud was a custom shop as wells a manufacturer, so they would make just about anything you wanted.
Here's a beautiful SuperPro body...I wonder whatever happened to this guitar.

And some more...

I’ve got Dave’s old ‘76 and it’s a beauty... absolutely rock solid! Sorry to open up an old wound Dave, but it’s in good hands. Hope you’re doing well.

Beautiful, Bruce. You rarely - almost never - see a SP in that classic Sho-Bud brown with rope inlay. Very, very nice. I've got a nice SuperPro, myself.
What's the serial number?

btw... those are some really light gauge strings....

Serial 14677. Those strings are a special order. As long as I have been playing them I have never had to change them nor have I ever broken one. So hard to find 11’s that last that long.

I am thinking of marketing them.

Square Front Rope Inlay

Post by Jerry Van Hoose »

I realize this isn’t a very good picture, it was taken during a rehearsal many, many years ago for a local morning TV show. The guitar is a square front, LDG w/rope inlay and the newer, “squared off“ key head.

I've been told that my first D10 ('79 Super Pro) I owned is rare by having rope inlay all around it. It was a real closet queen until I brought her home. Now its my practice guitar.

Found another one, a 79 Pro I.

Nice sounding guitar, getting some playing time after over 20 years in it's case :)
