I just got a chrome corner Nashville 400 in a trade yesterday. I have the mod chips from Ken Fox. I have done this mod on a couple of Nashville 112's and I think I read that the 400 will accept the same chips mod. Should I do the mod or not? I read that any 400 with a serial number later than 08575482 would not need the mod because Peavey incorporated the mod into the amps after that. The number of my amp is 05911219, which is earlier, so I guess I should do the mod. The speaker is a 1501, which I am going to replace with an EPS 15-C to get rid of some weight. The EPS-15C has worked out well in my Evan's SE-200 as a replacement for a JBL D-130.

George, since you got the chips, I would do the mod and bench test before putting the chassis back in.

What Larry said... and If you're positive you're going to replace the speaker, do that swap first so you get a true picture of what the amp is going to sound like.

I think (think) that the mod will give the amp a little fatter bottom-end. This may pair well with a neo speaker, so you'll probably want to install those new chips.

I think that installing the mod chips from Ken Fox is a great idea! These ICs (OPA2134) are superb, and NOT the same ones Peavey used in their mod--they used OPA 2604s. Those are a definite improvement over the stock 4558s, but don't equal the performance of the 2134s. Do note that the Fox NV400 mod included much more than just swapping the chips, however. He also changed a number of capacitors and resistors as well.
