I'm fairly certain that is Michael T Hermsmeyer. He is a mighty nice fella and a talented multi instrumentalist who has been working Branson for many years.

Doug got it. That's Michael T on pedal steel. Mickey makes that announced on his 1st song. Michael is from the Illinois area. Super nice guy and great singer and musician.

Had a nice half-hour going through Youtubes from "Urban Cowboy".Travolta and Winger sure looked good on the dance floor, and I'd almost forgotten how bar-band-friendly all those tunes were! Anybody know who played steel on Johnny Lee's studio version of "Cherokee Fiddle"?

Haven't heard it in a long time, but I believe that's Sneaky Pete Kleinow on Cherokee Fiddle on the original Urban Cowboy track.

I had that sound track on cassette and I played it constantly until it started to warble and finally blew up.

I remember that part for sure. (altho to be honest the other girl was the one he should have kept IMHO)

That movie certainly made country cool for an all-too-brief time. Wish somebody could rewind the clock and replace the crap that comes over the airwaves today.

Michael T bought that old Emmons from Hal Rugg as I recall.
Michael played out here in Apache Jct. Arizona with a group at a Dinner theater for a while as I remember, he came to a few of our jams with that same guitar.
A fine feller as well.

I had been pretty well convinced it was Sonny Garrish if you're talking about the version on the "Sounds Like Love" album... But, I could easily be wrong.

I played on the first version of that song with Michael Martin Murphey (who wrote it). It was a Top 40 country record in 1976.

It's Pete. There's no mistaking that sound. Here 'tis with the poster's comments if anyone is interested.

I think it was last year Michael T. left the group for a better paying day job.

A group I work with opened for Mickey seems like 4-5 times in recent years and Micheal and the whole band are great guys. Especially, the drummer whose name I can’t embarrassingly recall. He’s been with Gilley for about a hundred years I think.
