Is the new Fender 64' Custom Deluxe Reverb Amp, 20 watt, 12" speaker, good enough for Pedal Steel in a home studio or small club and what other amp would you suggest.

Lots of better choices for a steel amp at that price, but the short answer is yes it’s a good steel amp for small venues. I used a 65 DR reissue for years and love the tone, but they do breakup at higher volumes as tubes tend to do. They work great doubling as steel and guitar amps. If I were going to spend that much money on a tube amp for steel, I would go to a boutique amp like a Little Walter or milkman. Just my two cents for what it’s worth. Oh, the reverbs in those Fenders make an awful racket if you’re on a stage that shakes when the bass player jumps up and down like a wild man.

in my experience, you will struggle with headroom and volume using a deluxe reverb unmic'ed in a small club.

i suggest the tonemaster twin. it's lighter than the deluxe, will get whisper quiet or super loud. it probably doesn't have 100% of the vibes that a perfectly setup tube amp might, but i'd say it'll get you most of the way there.

true tube amps for steel, like the milkman (not the half and half) and the twin are heavy beasts.

But it works good great on songs like 'Ghost riders in the sky' , give your amp a wiggle when playing that song, it's a great effect. Laughing

Thanks guys for your insight. I think I made up my mind and its going to have tubes and more headroom. Now hopefully I live long enough to see it built with this virus floating around.
