Our practice workspaces

I’ve rearranged my practice area to replicate the ergonomics of my stage setup. On stage, the psg and lap go through the FX rack then the Rumble 200. The Ibanez AS73 goes through a Zoom G3n then the Princeton 65. The D-16 goes through a Zoom AC2 then to the house. Having this same layout at home will help with orientation whenever our band can play out again. Here at the house I run all the instruments, CD, iPhone, etc into a Behringer 1204 mixer driving headphones or a pair of Bose Companion 2’s. I built a little shelving unit just for this gear.

My headphones are plugged into the headphone jack on the NV112. The lap top is connected from the headphone jack on the lap top and then into the CD Input jack on the back of the NV112. I can play along with YouTube. Simple set up.

Hey Bill, is that a Mackie 28.8.2? I remember those. :)

One thing in common so far is having everything we need handy.

Hey Mike, yeah a venerable 8-bus, they've been around a long time. I paid 350.00 for that one used, when I needed some more pre-amps for tracking drums. I still used the pres once in a while but mainly it's now my 'signal' router; monitor selector, etc. Overkill for sure, and I'm thinking it's probably going to go at some point to make room, probably replaced with a 500 series rack. That said, I like knobs and meters. :-)

I think it was Steve Hinson that told me he has one of these also, and that 'back in the day' they actually cut records in Nashville on these things. You can do worse for sure..

The bigger question is whether or not that’s a JTM 45 sitting next to the mixer!
:D

I thought you'd never ask!! LOL

Close, it's actually a '73 JMP-50.. p-to-p wired, killer amp. I haven't got any gigs that really cater to its 'strengths', but I've taken it out on a couple of country guitar gigs and got a look or two.. I've owned several of these JMP-50s in the course of my 'career', sold them all, and regretted it almost immediately. So I went on a quest a few years ago and finally found one that hadn't been hacked with home-brew Master Volumes, beat to hell, or all of the above. Nothing like them IMO.. never cared for the Super Lead, too loud.

This right here works pretty well: :-)

Larry Ball, that's way too neat. How can you operate like that? You need more stuff to fill out that place.

Have any of you mastered the technique of typing while wearing fingerpicks (a/k/a multitasking)?

Slim, I said workspace, not too-much-fun place! Wow, that’s cool. Can I come over?

Even at that, there’s something very satisfying about Paul’s setup.

Behind where my steel seat is another steel a couple more steel seats and a few amps a couple bass guitars and guitar... the less organized part of this room, and to the left, a recliner for my wife if she wants to join me in there  and as with most things, gear is subject to change from time to time, but the basic set-up is the same as in this picture.

Ha! Especially challenging for those of us who use 3 finger picks. Another challenge is the track pad, I finally realized that I could keep an extra track ball on the left for those times when I'm wearing finger picks. It helps a lot :-).

Anytime, as long as it's post-pandemic :-).

Indeed! Easier to focus on the task at hand.
