New to Lap Steel - Recommendations

Post by Daniel McCombe »

Hey Everyone, Im looking for an affordable lap steel with decent electronics. Id prefer a humbucker in the neck position would be perfect. Any recommendations without breaking the bank? 6 or 8 string im down.

What's your actual budget? "Breaking the bank" means different things to different people.

The Asher Electro Hawaiian Junior is probably a good option if you can afford around $900 USD. They're shown as sold out on the Asher website, but seem to be available elsewhere.

In my option, Melbert (Bob Allen) is at the sweet spot of price and quality, custom built 6 or 8 starting under $500 with your choice of pickups. Excellent customer service too. http://www.melbert.guitars/home.html . Mike

I am going to recommend Bob Allen as well. I've had one of his 7-strings and he's building me an 8-string frying pan. They are great steels for the price and sound incredible.

Another vote for Melbert. Hand built to order in Tennessee, very good quality, reasonably priced, great customer service.

Melbert 8 string. Definitely. Also can be used a weapon of self defence if needed. Solidly built. Love mine.
