Were/are there any other pro steelers who were baseball fans? Are you a baseball fan?

There's nothing more enjoyable for me that to watch or listen to a game and practise my steel in the ad breaks, maybe with a beer in reach (the latter subject to the time difference. If it's after 12 noon Australian time then it's allowable)

I would guess that being in "St. Louis" for the Convention would have something to do with the Cardinals being from there as well.

But then again, Buddy was in Nashville during his early life at a time when it was well and truly Cards Country (i.e. pre-Atlanta Braves), so wasn't sure

I could be wrong(I often am)but, I think that was 2002, the first year that I attended the ISGC. Also, I'm reasonably sure he shared his set with Hal Rugg.

Thanks for the great pics. I'm happy to see him behind one the two Legrands that I built for him. I witnessed him playing this guitar at the 98' convention. That was my last attendance.

I’m not a pro , but I’m a life long baseball fan. I grew up and was a SF Giant fan, saw all the great players of the day, Mays McCovey, Davenport, LA Dodger rivalry players too.
I was a huge Atlanta Braves fan when Bobby Cox was the manager. Later I grew to love the Dodgers, Angels, basically any west coast teams, SD , Seattle...don’t care just love to watch a game especially in person.
I read that the great Saint Louis pitcher Bob Gibson recently passed away!

The announcer on "Triple Play" happens to be my father, Tex Davis. Decorated WWII vet,long time DJ, songwriter (Be-Bop-a-Lula, among others), National Country Promotion Director for Monument Records, and my hero. Anytime I want to hear his voice, I pull up that video.

Cool video too. I know all of us steelers and a lot of those outside of the the steel community loved, adored and miss Buddy Emmons.

Tommy, the photos are labelled 2003 and 2002 respectively. The second one is definitely 2002 because you can see it in the background. Not sure if the first photo is also 2002 and just mislabeled, or whether Buddy opted to wear the Cards jersey both years - anyone know?

Michael, I remember reading that your dad was the announcer. What I didn't realise was that he wrote Be-Bop-a-Lula??? What a history that song has. John Lennon's the Quarrymen played it at the church fete when Paul McCartney first clapped eyes on him.

Dana, which west coast team are you going for this postseason? Obviously the Dodgers look pretty damn unbeatable but the Padres and the A's are looking good as well. Or are you going for the Braves, for old times' sake?

Greg, Dad and Ray Pennington were dear friends. We were next door neighbors when we all got to Nashville in the '60's. He knew Dad's radio background, so it was just natural for him to ask Dad to do it. Part of Dad's radio background was as a sports announcer before he became famous as Sheriff Tex Davis.

Buddy was a die hard Yankees fan. He would say the players of today did their magic with steroids and such, where as the “Babe” did his with hot dogs and beer. 🤠 He loved the history of the Yankees.

Now I'm going to be a little prouder of my Yankees fandom, just knowing Big E was also a fan! Go Yanks! Became one living in NYC in 1959-61, including the year Maris hit 61, big deal in the Big Apple during that era. Randy Beavers, thanks for the info nugget! When's your next album coming out? I want one!! 🤗

Buddy liked sports. In Minneapolis he wore a Maple Leafs jersey. I just think he liked jerseys.

Cool to know, since I was born in Cleveland, I'm more of an Indians fan.

But, at my high school senior sports banquet, George Steinbrenner was the speaker, and he was great, a classmate's father was his persona assistant, and my dad was tutored by George's father back in the Cleveland days in the shipping insurance industry.

Oh, no new albums for me. My closets are already too full of past projects. 🤔

I loved talking baseball with Buddy. I follow players who are at the top of the game no matter what their team. When someone like Gerrit Cole, Matt Scherzer, or Justin Verlander pitches I want to watch. With the lineup the Yankees have now it has to be maybe the most intimidating in history. Like them or not, year after year the Yankees always seem to field “the team to beat”. This is what Buddy felt as well. Honestly it was really great discussing this with him. I miss him for more than his playing.
