Your thesis is the basis of "Hetrodyning", in radio frequency reception.
A definition of Heterodyning I found:
"Using an electronic circuit to combine an input radio frequency with one that is generated in order to produce new frequencies: one that is the sum of the two and another that is the difference of the two. Heterodyning is typically used to bandshift incoming frequencies into intermediate frequencies for demodulation".
I'm an electrical engineer and have used hetrodyning to lower a high frequency generated by objectionable vibration to the point it can be sampled and evaluated in the digital domain. It's tough to sample frequencies beyond 100khz and get decent resolution so hetrodyning lowers the frequency to make it easy.
Great post - I never connected beat tones while tuning with the sum and difference - "duh" on my part. |

Thank you, Mr. Dixon. That explains a lot in terms even I can understand. I basically understand ET vs. sweetened tunings, but this puts it in clearer perspective. Now I have a better explanation for situatioms when, "That just don't sound right" even when everybody seems to be in tune.

I have removed the conversational posts in this topic that were not about pedal steel guitar. Please try to stay on topic folks. That includes responding to this message - resist the temptation.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
