Bubbles in My Beer chords

Post by Bruce Roger »

I believe I’ve found that George Jones (with Jimmy Day, 1962) rearranged Wills’ Bubbles in My Beer in the B section:

1) Wills [and John Hughey, Ray Price, Ray Pennington (Buddy), Willie Nelson] B section: |IV | IV | I | I | V | V | I | I |

2) Jones B section: |IV | IV | I | I | I | I | V| V |
I like this version because ending on the V resolves into the I in the second half of B the section. Also measures 6-7 can be expanded into a vi and a ii, which adds to the harmonic motion.

Does this bass line actually differ? Does anyone play it this way?

Thanks.

Seems to me either way would work w/ tunes melody. Bass player would adjust accordingly to whichever version band is playing.

I'm super familiar with both versions you mentioned plus the Wills/ Tommy Duncan version and gotta say this is one of my favorite tunes on earth! Great lyrics/story.

And the ride James Clayton Day takes on Willy's version is sublime. He played with so much heart. That ENTIRE record for that matter, just delicious.

Bobby Flores does an outstanding job on Bubbles in my beer. I’m not sure who’s playing steel, but it’s pretty good 😎😉

That is really good. The whole band just swings.
