Thinking about getting a 6 string lap steel just to mess with and was wondering what you guys thought of this Gretsch model. Mostly interested in intonation, electronics, etc. I have had many higher dollar steels over the years, Fender, Gibson, Ricky, Clinesmith, etc. Never have owned any 6 stringers, always 8. I dont expect it to compare to any of those, but just for "sitting around the campfire" so to speak...with an amp of course...haha Any experience and thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I bought one nearly 20 years ago and used it frequently with my band. Since it was my first lapsteel, I had nothing to compare ...
After acquiring a Fender and a Rickenbacher I found, that the Gretsch could be MUCH better by increasing the string space at the nut. Did this and installed a multibender and now I'm happy with it Very Happy

I got a black sparkle one last year and have no issues. It's my avatar pic.

I've had mine for over ten years with no problem. I like the nice warm tone you can get out of it for classical:

Very cool! What tuning are you using and did you transcribe that? I'm a very experienced classical player that just picked up lapsteel in the last couple of years.

Hi Peter - I’m thinking of doing the same thing! Where did you get your replacement nut?

I think these are nice sounding lap steels.

My experience...
Weak electronics and small nut.
Changed all of the above for a real nice sound.

Melbert guitars are way better for more less the same money.
