Based on the Big Island in Hawaii, Chuck Moore is one of the world's best ukulele luthiers. His inlay work is breathtaking. He's also a recent convert to lap steel. Chuck posted this amazing inlay pic on Facebook. Here he is playing a steel he built.

The man is an artist! He also has stunning frypan and Bakelite steel adaptations...if I recall correctly, curly koa and rope binding...

Check out this frypan! The form of the Rickenbacker with the stylings of the Weissenborn (if I didn't adore my Clinesmith so much....)

I was wrong on what I thought was his Bakelite derived steel...it's an actual Ricky, but he replaced the silver plates with stunning curly koa. It's a looker for sure.

Hi Chuck!
That lap steel that Chuck is holding makes me real happy. Chuck is probably, most likely, the best ukulele builder on the planet.

I was fortunate to get a Moore Bettah ukulele directly from Chuck a few years back. Not only does he do fabulous inlay artistry, but his instruments have terrific feel and perfect tone. When I decided to get a Bear Creek guitar, I decided to use the sale of my Moore Bettah ukulele to help pay for it. I found a buyer who was so happy to purchase it and I reached out to Chuck to let him know I was selling it. I remember telling him that I was getting a Weissenborn and he said that he was also interested in steel guitars. I also told him that if he ever decided to make hollow neck guitars, I'd get in line to try and grab one because I know he would do it right.

On a side note, I was just as impressed with my Bear Creek guitar as I was when I received the Moore Bettah uke!

Thanks everyone. I've built a few lap steels for my personal use and then thought of adding them to my ukulele line. Then I bought my B6 followed by the Clinesmith fry pan. Then I figured, why bother! Haha.
You can see some of my other work here; www.moorebettahukes.com

This probably the best shot of one of my lap steels, for obvious reasons. Wink The lovely and super talented steel guitarist (at 16 years old!), Maile Lyman, at a recent SG convention here on Big Island. She's been a long time student of Alan Akaka's.
