So I've been asked to play lap steel on a friend's country waltz. I'm looking to get in the right frame of mind before I start tracking. So, if you have a favorite waltz that has lap steel on it. Please drop me a link!

I had just gotten my first resonator when I recorded this. Three quite old Hawaiian waltzes in a medley that my teacher had me working on. Rusty in spots for sure (I probably need to pull the chart out and work on it again, its been a while!)

Check out JB's Old Timey Waltz from his instructional video on YouTube. I think it's in E7 tuning.

Thanks ya'll. That's at least got me off to a start. I also found an old thread with a list of "must practice" songs that I'm picking through. |

The above link is another idea for a song. Don't hear it very much today. I liked it so made it a steel solo. HNK wILLIAMS WROTE it and never recorded it. It was found after he had passed. _________________ Custom Tabs Various Tunings

“When two worlds collide” is a very good waltz for steel. I use a modified B flat 13th tuning. I have no link for you but I really enjoy polishing it up from time to time With a tasty Occasional bar slant, Etc. Great Roger Miller tune. |

the PA'AU'AU WALTZ is an hawaiian classic, fraught with ritardandi and grace--
check out tony ku's version on his 1979 "original hawaiian steel guitar" album, or jerry byrds version on "hawaiian style guitars". _________________ The mainland is intimidating, bewildering, and uncomfortable. And you have to wear shoes. -- Theroux. |

My teacher happened to assign me another waltz at our lesson this week. Wehiwehi 'Oe. One version, by Barney Isaacs and George Kuo, here:
