A few months ago I picked up a Nashville 112. I think it sounds pretty good at least at home. I’m not sure of the age but it’s one of the amps with a brown vinyl snakeskin covering.

I’m thinking that the Fox chipset could improve the amp and why not do it. Because this amp sounds better than any NV112, that I’ve heard, I’d like to be able to discern whether Or not it’s had any modifications, prior to my acquiring it. Does anyone have ideas as to what I should look for? Thanks

The only way is to open it up. The chips that are changed in the mods are on the preamp board and you will have to remove the chassis to see.

There were two mods. The original used OPA 2604 chips and the later (best) uses OPA2134 chips. The original factory chips are 4560's.

If it happens to have the 2604's, replace them with 2134's - you'll like it even better.

all are looking for a green'r pasture. I would bet that if I heard you play through your amp the way it is now I would say that the sound is great and so would many other players. I would suggest different techniques to obtain a different sound and leave the amp as is.

I checked pricing on the OPA2134PA and found pricing from $1.75 each to $4.75 each. Is there really that much price difference, or would there be a difference in the chips? Is there a quality difference between Burr Brown and Texas Instruments?

Teas Instruments owns Burr Brown.

I've see low priced chips on e-bay that are shipped from China and then the high end from reputable US electronics vendors.

I installed a set of e-bay chips for a guy and they worked perfect. ???
