Is there a way to visually differentiate between ceramic and AlNiCo magnets on vintage speakers? |

There is, but many had covers over both.
As far as the "Coffee Can" EV's are concerned, the cover isn't removable, but the 12's are AlNiCo, and the 15's are ceramic.
The Jensen MI 12" I had reconed for my DR build is ceramic, but covered.

An AlNiCo magnet speaker will have the magnet INSIDE the VOICECOIL.
A ceramic the magnet will be OUTSIDE the VOICECOIL.
Top speaker has the magnet outside the voicecoil. That makes it ceramic.
The bottom speaker has the magnet inside the voicecoil and that makes it AlNiCo.

Covers for the Jensen AlNiCo speaker also known as "bells."
The reason for the covers on the AlNiCo is because it is a fragile magnet. If it gets bumped or dropped, they are sensitive to mechanical shock.
But many prefer the AlNiCo. Also cobalt, the "Co" in the name is getting harder to find so AlNiCo anythings are a little more involved in the manufacture. _________________ ShoBud The Pro 1
