What year did Scotty's steel convention switch from the big old hotel on the other side of town,to the spot by the arch? Was that the Chase Park plazza? Went there a couple years before it switched.....any one have any pics?

I got to attend the last show at the Chase great show. Not a safe place after dark.

The first one I went to was at the motel out near the airport in 1974. I went once or twice at the Chase Park Plaza, then about 20 times at the Millennium.

Yeah ..the neighborhood was somethin else...me and my buddy went out for a walk,I guess we were a little green about large city dwellers,St.Louis.....lucky we made it back....it changed rapidly from block to block...but still the good ol days..I did like the river district close to the arch.

Although the area around the Chase Park Hotel was iffy, I liked the sound there better than the downtown Hotel (FWIW It was Stouffer's Riverfront Hotel before Clarion).

The first year I went was the first year Herby Wallace picked at the ISGC, I think 78

As I was living across the state in Kansas City, I went every year except one from 78(?) to 97. I retired in 96 and moved to Florida so I didn't go every year after that.

My first visit was to the old Chase Park Plaza in either 76 or 77. It was steel guitar heaven....unlike anything I'd every witnessed with all those great people.

Driving in from Louisville we always got lost. Looking for Kingshighway we once ended up in E. St. Louis where we didn't need to be. We were fortunate that one of the kindly locals directed us out of there with a stern warning. Another time, we sought out an area eatery and found a chicken place...not so great atmosphere.

The worst thing at the Chase was the dining hall. Terribly crowded and long waits.

One year, we were at a table for breakfast when Jim Vest and a friend came in. We invited them to sit with us for which they were grateful. Jim noticed our Louisville Ky badges and asked if I knew any of the local players he knew. I really didn't although I had heard some of the names. Then he told me he was from Louisville! I had no idea. I was green and embarrassed that I wasn't savvy to our local steel guitar connection.

Of course I was aware of Tommy White, Rex Wiseman and a couple guys from my era.

Great memories from all the ISGC gatherings.
