I was talking with Judi Myrick Weldon Myrick's widow on the phone the other day and she was curious who all out there Ownes steels that belonged to Weldon over the years. If any of you are on here please let us hear from you and post a pic of the guitar that you have that was owned by Weldon. I told her that I would post this on the Forum and she said great

While not PSG, I'd be curious what Corvette(s) Weldon owned and where they may have wound up. We have a good group on a car forum who would enjoy hearing that someone notable may have once owned their car.

I own one of Weldon's steels -- it's a lacquer D10 p/p with wooden necks. I believe it might be the one pictured in Winnie Winston's book. I bought it with 3 levers and 8 pedals and then Mike Cass added 4 more levers. Mike said that the pick-ups had Weldon's initials underneath and were wound a bit heavier than usual. The finish is pretty worn but it sounds amazing. I didn't have time to take a photo -- thanks to Skip Edwards for sending me one he had!

I believe Jeff Triplett owns Weldon's Justice Judge. He lives in my neighborhood so I'll pass the thread along to him and have him post a picture.

I have Weldon's Justice D10 that he had built. Actually my wife and I went to Weldon's house to pick it up and have had it about 5 years now. Judi was very gracious giving us some of Weldon's CD's, showed us his music room with gold records, awards, pictures and his Hall of Fame Award.

The guitar plays and sounds great. It is over standard in height and is 8x4. Weldon played a Day setup while I play Emmons so I had to change the setup for pedals 1 and 3. Also had to change all four knee levers. Weldon tuned string two to C# and raised it twice.

Hi Don,

Weldon's red corvette was a 1994. In 1997 it turned into a red chevy pickup. Better to haul around his equipment!

My main guitar is a '74 matte rosewood PP that was owned by Weldon Myrick. He sold it to Mike "Cookie" Jones.

Thank you Judi! And I totally understand the trade, anybody except a harmonica player would run out of room for gear in a Corvette! I wish I had known him.

Who's got my favourite Weldon guitar - his teal green Emmons LeGrande? He was playing it on the Opry in the mid-nineties when I met him and said: 'I decided I wanted one that would stand out on TV'.

Wow, that's so great to hear! It's a wonderful steel, glad I get to play it. The guitar sees plenty of stage and studio time. Thanks Judi!

I don't own one of Weldon's guitars but I've always wanted one. Weldon was my hero. I was so fortunate to spend a lot of time with him when I was very young. He took me to many recording sessions and gave me rides and fed many weekends at the Opry. Hopefully someday I'll find one.

Thanks for posting that picture. It's a pretty steel, don't recall seeing any pictures of it in his photos. Glad you enjoy playing it.....keep steelin'.

While there are and were many great steel guitarists, Weldon was the one that made the greatest impression on me. I had the pleasure of meeting him once. He treated me just as ai expected he would...friendly & cordial. I told him he was my hero. He smiled and really seemed to appreciate that. I mentioned to him how I could always recognize his playing by his style, yet he always had something different for each artist he accompanied. Great picker! Great person.

Thanks for the responses to my query - especially Judi! I'm happy that it's still in the family.

Craig's photo shows it's an early LeGrande - I hadn't noticed that when I was at the Opry that night. I was there with George IV (an old, old friend who is sadly missed) and, thanks to George, got to meet Weldon, Jimmy Capps and other musical stalwarts.

It was a good bill that night - Ricky Skaggs (with his electric band and the excellent Denny Sewell on guitar - he and I had a long chat!), Grandpa Jones, The Whites (I tried in vain to buy Sharon's M-38 Martin) and a number of others.

Weldon, though, was one of life's absolute gentlemen and was very kind to me. I had toured with Sonny Curtis (singer/song-writer SC) previously and he'd told me many stories of growing up in Lubbock and being friends with Weldon - he and Sonny must be two of the nicest people I've met in music and in life.

Judi, keep it! There are lots of other LeGrandes around for people to buy, and they will no more sound like Weldon on those than if they had his. By the way, this picture you sent me a few years ago means a lot to me!

IO stand corrected on the colour. I had always remembered it as 'teal' but I see now that it's much brighter and more blue in character.
