SE Texas Steel Guitar Mtg - No April meeting

Post by Billy Phelps »

The SE Texas Steel Guitar Association will not be meeting in April due to the corona virus. We are not sure about the May meeting either.

Please check www.steelguitarforum.com Events section or an email for updates.

I hope everyone will be save and hope to resume our meetings again soon.

God Bless You,

Billy and Patty, I understand your decision and it's the thing to do. I appreciate the effort you and Patty put into this program. See you soon.

Marty, the message you are responding to is a year old. And, when I last talked with Patty, she said that when she retires, and she now has, they would look for a venue in Katy. The Sealy location just never caught on. I'd love to get the program going again. It was Jody Sanders who founded the club, originally in Conroe, then Magnolia, then to Katy. With Jody's passing, Billy and Patty picked up the task and they have done a good job. Covid is now in retreat and maybe we can get something going again.

If anyone knows of a venue available on Sundays, let us know. American Legion Hall, church, community centers, etc.

Anyone know what the situation is with Billy & Patty setting up our SE Texas pickin' meetings? I miss the Sundays of going to the church and everyone playing. That was a lot of fun. I appreciate your responses.

Hey guys, I live in Baytown. Maybe I can do some looking to see if there are any places available. Is that too far out for you guys? Or do you need something over on the Katy side? I guess we're all kind of spread out. Appreciate your input. Maybe Billy & Patty have something in mind?

Danny, we are indeed spread out. We have the southern group from Lake Jackson, Larry, Bobby and Jody, and you in Baytown, several in Houston, and Billy and Patty in Katy. That is a very large geographical swath. Logically Houston is more central and I suggested we find an assisted living facility with a social gathering room, or a VFW type room. It would be great to have us back together.

I attended the very first meeting of the SE Tx steel guitar club. It was led by Jody Sanders and held in a music store in Conroe. I sat beside Herb Remington. Jody and Herb and now both gone on, but the club survived moving to a bar in Magnolia then the first location in Katy at the MUD room. Then the Life Church in Katy. I was timid about playing with so many greats like Bobby Bowman and Jody Cameron and others and I asked Jody if I could just play rhythm guitar and he gladly accepted, say "we need one".
It would be great to have a new start and I think a location on or near Hgwy 6 in west Houston would be ideal, splitting the distance to a middle location. Maybe something like Eagles Trace, a senior home?
