Doug Jernigan on The Merlin Gene Show, RFD-TV
I was checking out RFD-TV yesterday, and came across The Merlin Gene Show, which I was unfamiliar with, so I set our DVR to record it.
Today’s segment started off with a wonderful version of Cherokee Maiden, with the great Doug Jernigan on pedal steel. Other cast members you may recognize: Eugene Moles, lead guitar; Anita Stapleton, vocals; Roni Stoneman, banjo; Smiley Roberts, comedy(!).
I found these clips from the show (that feature Doug) on YouTube:

The reason it's such great playing is that it's simple and stylish. You don't find yourself wondering how he did that last bit, you just look forward to the next.
Particularly true on Someone Had To Teach You. Also great drumming - the best drum fills are no fills at all

Great job by Doug on I'll Come Running. A quick listen back to Connie Smith's version with Weldon in the steel seat shows just what an amazing player he was too. That chicken pickin' style was very dynamic and in your face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEOQKXX1zAA
Doug Jernigan has been one of the very top dogs since the early 1970's, and he has stayed there. A quiet gentleman.

Hey Greg, "someone had to teach you" is one of my all time favorites! Wade Hayes has a cover of that song it is fabulous can't remember the steel player on that cut, but love it!
