I am looking to buy a pedal steel. I will just be starting out but I want to buy a instrument that is fully ready to be played without having to rebuild. I would like a double neck so that as I progress I do not have to upgrade. Help. I'm in Ottawa, KS. I don't want to break the bank but quality is important to me. HELP!!!! Emmons, Sho-Bud, Zumm.....nothing with cables.

Someone listed a Zum Encore S10 the other day...I would buy that and focus on e9 if you are just starting out. You won’t find a better sounding or playing guitar for the money, and you can take the money you saved and use it for instruction. Highly recommend radyguide.com and the Paul Franklin Method.

An older MSA or Carter D10 could be obtained for a very reasonable price. They are well made and usually don’t need TLC.

Second that - MSA and Carter (not the Starter), the best $$ value in a used steel guitar, reccomendo for starting out and excellent beyond that period. Not knocking any others, mind you. Buy your Zum etc later.

Hey Dustin! I’m currently selling a recently set up Fessenden pedal steel that you can find on this forum. It’s ready to be shipped and played for a good price. It’ll be a great guitar that would hold its value, should you ever decide to sell it.

In my opinion, the best bargain available on the Forum presently is the SD-10 Pedalmaster. Owned a D-10 previously and the tone and build quality were on par with the better known brands. As previously stated; the E-9 neck will keep you busy for quite some time and you can always upgrade later.

You are on the right track with a double neck IMO. It's a nice solid stable instrument. Used MSA's, and Carters are fine choices. I would also include BMI's
which are excellent Instruments. All are generally around the Low 2000's.Good luck. Tennessee Lee

Lots of good suggestions here. Don't overlook Derby and EMCI.

while your intent is excellent, a D10 out of the gate, and you do not want to break the bank, you do have to state how much MONEY you are budgeting for this journey. is it $100, $1000, $3000 , $5000 , $10,000 ?
How much is breaking the bank ?
Because THAT matters .
Jack is selling a great Franklin D10 , only $8000. Give him a call.

Dekley's are good too, I have a SD12 (the first one in fact) very stable BUT are a little heavier than others
but there is little to no cabinet drop!

If you get the Mullen that Mike mentioned, the Mullen crew will have it set up and playing like new.

I recently bought a Mullen G2 Universal. Top quality guitar and great customer service.
I don't think I'll ever need another one, but I'd buy my next steel from Mullen again.

IMO just starting, I would go with a single S-10, then go to a D-10 later, but you could pay out a bundle, then not go above the E9th. It will keep you busy for years to come, but the Mullen Mike offers is w great Price, and Mullen is the Top of the line.
