| Anyone have experience capturing the spirit of Bud's Bounce on a lap steel? I have tried all kinds of bar slants and finger pulls on an 8-string with C6 tuning. Nothing seems to work quite right. Could it be that this tune, in particular, is best left to those with pedals? |

I did a version using a "Duesenberg Multibender" attached to my Gretsch Syncromatic:
Bud's Bounce
I used an Open-D Tuning, with the 5th string tuned to B. |

| I just picked up my little 8 string C6,,,it seems to lay fairly well on it. I didn't really try to work it up,,,,I think Emmons did a C6 version somewhere,,,maybe in Scotty's book,,,,or maybe Winnie's,,,???? |

I worked out a learning arrangement of Bud's Bounce for C6th Lap Steel E--C--A--G--E--C
It does not require any slants or string pulls which tends to give the tune a different twist in sound.

Hello, I am bumping that topic !
I wanted to share some experiment on this song. I am a beginner lap steel player and that's one I really wanted to be able to play. Unfortunately I quickly found it was very challenging to play without pedals ...
Plus I could not find Mike Neer's version anymore ... So I decided to try with what I am used to that is A6 tuning now, the one I keep playing. Folks on the forum told me, whatever the tuning you chose you got to make music out of it, whatever it is ! So I tried some slants and came up with my version, to this day, of Bud’s Bounce on a nice Guyatone S8 tuned to A6. I tried to incorporate things from Eddie Rivers, Lloyd Green and of course Bud Isaacs in my arrangement. Intonation is not easy for sure, I think I should go for bullet bar now, probably could help … so there is way for improvement, surely far from perfect but at least I can now play this song without the need to buy a pedal steel which is very difficult in Europe. So that’s it I hope it will help overs to play this song. Of course I am widely open to remarks on improvements I could use in my playing. Have a great day.

| I can play Bud's Bounce on 6-string C6 with an E on top with no problem. Of course it does not sound exactly the same as on a 10-string E9 with the common pedals and levers, but only steel players could likely tell the difference. A few slants, string pulls, and a bullet bar are a must, but it's doable. |

| I use the Filberto E7 tuning and it lays quite well. Key of F and Lloyd Green's version is a good match for Lap Steel |

Since you all have been looking for my Bud's Bounce files, I posted up on my blog. Unfortunately, a few years ago my urls changed and I lost links to many of the things I've posted here. You can now listen and download this.
I recorded this so long ago, I'm a little embarrassed. But anyway, the important point of playing this is that the high E has to continue to sound even while the other strings are changing pitch, just like a pedal steel. That's the big secret.
