"Rainbows" was Buddy Emmons! Dave's a great player but I'm pretty sure he never recorded with the Spoonful, nor with JB Sebastian.

Jim......there was a big Spoonful/Sebastian tribute and reunion, by the Wild Honey Foundation in LA this past weekend. I think Joachim was wondering if Dave played that song at the show. Turns out it wasn't played.........so I dunno.

Oops. Yes I'm well aware of that show and you're probably right that that's what Joachim was referring to. My bad.

I asked the friend who attended and he answered that Mr.Pearlman played on Nashvile Cats and Never Going Back from their Revalatio/Revolution album, which is (if I am correct) basically a Joe Butler solo album with session players. On Never Going back I'm 99% sure that it had Sneaky Pete who played a great solo.

Yeah, I'm sure you did, Joachim. Just wasn't thinking too well when I posted that.

I believe Red Rhodes played on Joe Butler's Never Going Back, and John Sebastian has stated he played a Fender pedal steel on Nashville Cats. Zally pick-sync'd a Fender on Rain On The Roof on the old Hollywood Palace TV show:

The Lovin' Spoonful's recordings from the mid-sixties stand the test of time better than most of the stuff recorded on these shores during the height of the so-called "British Invasion." My personal all-time favorite American band from the '60s. This album changed my life:

Thanks for all the kind words. I played on NashVille Cats, Never Going Back (Red Rhodes was on the record), Darlin' Companion (with Elliot Easton from The Cars, and Bill Mumy), Rain On The Roof, Do You Believe In Magic, Stories We Could Tell, and Younger Girl. It was an honor to play with John Sebastian and the rest of The Lovin' Spoonful. There are a bunch of pics and vids on my Facebook page. I used the new Fender Twin Tonemaster that Fender was nice enough to send at a reduced price. I love it!! This pic is of John listening to me play the solo from, "Rainbows."

Jack I can undestand your statement about What's Shakin' with Paul Butterfield. You're a very good Blues Harp player.

I was aware of this. I like the picture of Sebastian smiling watching you play (I would have become very nervous)

I was entering junior high school when I first heard Do You Believe In Magic on top 40 AM radio. I used my paper route money to purchase that record and every other 45 the Spoonful subsequently released. On the back side of Daydream was Night Owl Blues. I've been hooked on mouth organ ever since. I dug John Lennon's stuff (Love Me Do, There's A Place, I'm A Loser, etc.) as much as the next guy, but Night Owl Blues was something special. (Still is.) Then I heard Butterfield play Off The Wall on What's Shakin'... Whoa Nellie!

And on top of being a great steel player and great guy, Dave also makes some of the finest tube microphones you can find. I love and use them daily!!

Dave, Rain on the Roof and Nashville Cats are 2 of my all time favorite songs... What brand of steel guitar were you using on those recordings???. I always figured that since Zal was "playing" a Fender on the Hollywood Palace clip, that it was a Fender.. If you remember, it would answer a question I have had in my head for well over 40 years.. The parts you played in those songs were a perfect fit and I have enjoyed them for well over 50 years!.... bob

Bob I didn't play on the recordings. I played as part of the band on the reunion show last Saturday at The Alex Theater in Glendale, CA.
