I play in cowboy boots. the only thing I've ever played in. Tried tennis shows, that didn't work.

Almost 40 years in socks. Tried using shoes years ago. Could not feel the correct rocking motion when pedaling. Could not feel what I wanted to feel. Works for me across all 8 pedals.

Played in (and wore) boots for decades,until the heel got too tall for my feet.Most of the time,it's black running shoes that look like the regular kind.... I have brought along a pair of boots a few times and changed before the gig started. I still like that.

I wear Tecova and Justin boots with a riding heel. I can get by with just about anything short of snowshoes now, but the boots get my legs and feet aligned the way I like.

I did buy a pair of Erv’s Minnetonka mocs for chummin around the house.

Being from Texas, I've always played in boots with riding heels. I do not use pointed toes though. I prefer to use a rounded toe. The pointed toed boots that Emmons and Day wore , back in the day gets in the pedals too deep for me. When the band dresses up or you are in a uniform anything else is not acceptable and will get you fired.

I've been playing in cowboy boots for a very long time. I feel very comfortable in them and never have a problem. Some other steel players have asked me about how do I play in those boots? I say it's what I'm used too.
However, during practice or working a hot summer gig, I usually wear moccasins by Merril.
Funny thing did happen though. I had to do a session wearing my Timberland steel toed work boots. It was a strange feeling, but, after a few moments it all came together without a hitch.

I had a similar post not to long ago. Basically I had very difficult time playing in boots. This past weekend I played in boots! I practiced all week with boots, and come show time, just put it out of my mind. I used the square toe boots, and all went well. Mind over matter. Good luck with your journey!

When I am home, wood shedding I wear Moccasins, House Slippers or any smooth soled shoe.
When I play with a band I wear Tapered heel cowboy boots. My favorite boot is SAGE Zipper Entry, With soft leather tops. I am on my 3rd set. They have Size 9 EEEE that fits my Ducky Feet perfect.
