I’ve just been going down the list of his tunes, and wow...I’m sure it’s been said before what a great genre-hopping and tasteful player he is, but maybe it’s time to say it again. Thank you for creating such a treasure trove of music, Joe, and making it so accessible too!

Hi Fred,

Thanks for the shout out! Glad you like my stuff and thanks for finding and posting the link. I have diverse musical tastes and I've tried to find tunes that would work well for the steel, even if (especially if!) they're not country.

Hi Larry, hope you're doing well.

You’re welcome, Joe. One of the many things I like about your stuff is that no matter what kind of music you play, you let the steel guitar sound like a steel guitar. So many times we hear on the forum about taking the instrument in new directions, and I think that gets misinterpreted. The music itself can grow and be taken to a new direction too, because it’s being played on a steel guitar. I don’t see any reason to lay off A pedal bends just because the music is supposed to be jazzy or rocky or funky.

I've got a little tired of steel guitar playing in the last few months. But there are many good licks on his albums from and for standard guitar players to play along on Joe's albums.

Some players make one or 2 CDs. Joe has given us a large body of work, and each one of his CDs is so good that it's hard to pick a favorite.

I have all of them.

Thanks again guys. It's a little surprising getting EBs (ego boosts) when I haven't done anything lately. It's real nice when an album comes out... but you never know what you're gonna find when you check in on the Forum.

Hey Douglas, you must have been disappointed in my last album title "Blue Steel", a little boring, eh? I'll try to do better next time! Speaking of, I always swear I'll never do another album when i finish one. It's so much work, time and $, plus I hear my shortcomings and it makes me wonder why I do them. So, thanks for the support.

Thanks for the link, Fred. I checked out some of Joe's songs on that site and they're great. I think he's my favorite player at the moment based on what I heard here.

Joe, your albums may be old news to some people, but they're new to me. You have a new fan. I enjoy listening to these steel instrumental versions of popular songs more than the originals, not the mention your original songs. Great job!

Joe's a great guy, a great player, and has given us a great music resource. I have found much hard to find steel guitar vinyl at the Hollywood store!

This is probably as good a time as any to say that I've always loved your playing Joe, even way back in 1973!

Hey Slim, didn't know you were playing steel these days. Good for you! Hi to Penny.

Jim, as you probably know that was Buddy Charleton's jacket. Amazingly, there's still a few licks left in it!

Hey Peter, I thought S.F. was the only Amoeba to carry wacky steel albums. Kudos to L.A. BTW, they're moving at the end of the year around the corner to Hollywood Blvd.

Jacek, Nice to hear! One of these days I'm going to post some of my favs for folks like you who never heard some of the ones that I think are worthy.

Yeah, took the plunge almost 4 years ago. Progress is not quite as slow as I expected. They say it takes 10 years to suck, but I just might achieve that in 9! Regardless, I'm lovin' it and get by on our recordings with a tremendous number of punch-ins.

Penny says hi back. I think the last time we saw you was at a steel showcase at Don Quixote's in Felton. The internet machine tells me this was in 2008 -- how time flies! I remember enjoying that show thoroughly.

All the best...

- Slim

I have been a fan of Joe since his first album. He had me when he tied-up "You Are Everything" and melted my ears with his Emmons back then! Hats off, no bull, to Joe!

I just commented on Tommy's thread here. I can't hold his picks, he's that good. So thank you Tommy for chiming in, you're too kind.

Dennis, you've always been so supportive. We're going to have to meet one of these days.

And Slim, good to hear it's going well. All it takes is practice (heh heh).

Joe is definitely an innovative player. One of my favorites is his arrangement of Quicksilver's Edward, the Mad Shirt Grinder. Let's not forget that Joe wrote the book on some steel guitar recordings.
