A lot of pedal steelers have preferences for the height of various pedals. I like my A and C pedal a little higher than the B. I also like my 5 and 6 a little higher. How many of you have a method of storing the rods so when you assemble your steel you can get the right rod on the right pedal quickly? I use a permanant marker to make hash marks on the rod to crespond with the pedal.

Bill Rudolph (Williams guitars) has the best solution.

He has little plastic thingies that fits around the pedal rod with numbers printed on them.

I'm sure Bill would sell you a set if you contact him at the Williams web site.

Erv I think every modern PSG rods are numbered My '06 carter is. Fred I don't know what type of guitar you play but when I grab the leg pouch all of the rods are numbered on the end, pretty easy.

You can use numbers from an old cas. tape and then put a drop of clear nail polish on them It lasts for years

My mid 80's Sierra Crown doesn't have rods numbered. I like the colored tape method and the label maker with nail polish. But I don't use nail polish so I'll have to borrow my wife's.

You can also take a tip from Emmons. They stamp the number on the side of the pedal rod, the hexagonal part you adjust for length.

I have black tape on mine.Starting at bottom of 1st 2'' higher on each rod till you get to last one.Works really good for me & don't have to keep up with numbers or different colors, also looks good w/black guitar.

I use various heights as well - easy on my 3+4 GFI, with a nice flat spot on the rod connector to write the letter with a Sharpie.

On my 400, I have to write it on the rod itself - and with *nine* of them, it's important to not get them mixed up!

The little plastic thingies that Erv mentioned are actually wire markers and are available at just about any electrical supply house.

Do ask for wire markers, I'm pretty sure that they will not know about Steel Guitar Rod Markers.
