C6 foot question

I am very green on the C6th neck. I find myself looking down at the floor to make sure I am stepping on the right pedal and frequently I am not. Should I raise some pedals for reference or is there a known technique that is unknown to me? I believe over time I will get it but sooner would be better.

The default C6 foot position is to have your foot placed over pedals 5 and 6. This is analygous to having your foot default over the A,B pedals (Emmons setup) on the E9 neck. When you want to go to the C pedal on E9, you just slide your foot over. When you want to go to pedal 7 on C6, you just slide your foot over (if you want to go to pedal 8, you have to slide your foot a little further). For now, ignore pedal 4 since it is in most players setuips, the least used C6 pedal. Pedals 5,6,7 are used for 90% of your C6 playing so try to get comfortable with them before going any further. And again, approach it like pedals A,B,C on E9.

Over time you'll get it. What works for me is I "center" my left foot over the 5 and 6 pedals, as a reference point, the same way I center over the A and B pedals on the E9. Most of what I do is 5, 6 or both. I have my 7 pedal over where the 4 was because sometimes I use 5 and 7 together and I don't have enough mental bandwidth to use both feet on the pedals.

Jim-Lots of good advice here . I keep my foot on pedals 5 and 6 like most but I have pedal 7 on a knee lever. That way I can play 900 songs without moving my foot or getting off the volume pedal. I'm getting lazy and it makes it easier for this old guy.
Now that most have the D on the first string instead of the G. We can have both necks tuned to E. It makes it a lot easier for E9 players to play E6 as all the chords and bar postions are the same as E9, even the 1st string is F#, same as E9. that is what I use C6 converted to E6, no need to change the pedal rods underneath or anything.Just put a set of E9 strings on most of it....al

Thanks Al,

I have been playing 6 string guitar and E9 for so long it may be an easier transition for me to take your lead. Can you give me an idea of the string gagues you use.
The C6 positions are beginning to gell in my brain, but it seems easier for me to forget things than it is too remember them.

As the only C6 instrument I have with pedals is a ShoBud Crossover, do I assume that, with the lever in the C6 position, pedals 1 and 2 correspond to the 5 and 6 you're mentioning ?

That's exactly why I play a crossover. I can't seem to find more than 5 pedals with my foot. Sometimes, even 5 is a challenge!
