Hello all,
I have the actual pedal but it was bought used from reverb and is dead. How do I open it up and put new batteries in it? What batteries does it eat? I can't seem to find this info anywhere.

Remove the one small screw near the plug on the bottom of the unit and carefully pull off the plastic cover. You may have to jiggle it a little to get the cover past the two knobs, and don't pull it off any more than necessary. (The battery and switch wires are very short!).

It takes a standard 9v battery, and one little tip I can give you is that the unit really works best with an old battery. A new battery supplies far more voltage than the unit needs, and I've always found that the distortion is smoother/warmer, and the unit works better, with a half-dead battery.

The battery normally lasts many years if you unplug the unit when you're not using it!

Noah you may have to loosen the input jack also I know I did on mine.

Ok, so I got batteries in it but the device still doesn't work. Either I broke it while getting it open or I need one of them old fashioned 9vs. Either way, thanks for the help everyone!

Did you try maneuvering the vol. and attack controls? If you set them too far back no sound will come out.
You don't need a vintage battery, any good 9v battery should work.

Could be the switch is dirty. Work it back and forth a few times and try spraying the switch and pots with a little contact cleaner.
