I was listening to a version of “When Two Worlds Collide” by Flatt Lonesome and was perusing the song search as I listened. I came across a live Dottie West version and as I watched and listened, there was Pete doing his “talking steel” on it. There’s another steeler in the band also (I think) but I couldn’t identify him. I like the song a lot and always enjoy Pete.

Oh thank you Dave. I did mean the live version. That’s the first time I’ve tried to post a link without kids or grandkids help. As they say: fail.

Pete played some pretty tasty stuff on no telling how many hit records. I enjoy Pete’s work too. He was a major influence. I’m sure we all have copied Pete drake’s stuff no telling how many times. I know he was sometimes criticized by some folks but his contributions were vast and he was extremely successful.

The clip isn't real clear, but I think the other steeler (seen at 2:11) is Bill West, her husband at that time.

Pete's playing Buddy's first 'Bud, originally 8-string but changed to 10 by the time Pete acquired it and put the huge Pete Drake badge over Buddy's name. This is the guitar
in the CMHOF.

Bill. I also love Pete’s playing. In my mind, he’s always displayed tasteful stuff that seems to fit the song.
Donny, I thought that might be who it was, but I’m really not all that familiar with Bill West.
Herb, I always enjoy the historical stuff you write about. Thanks for that,

"My Bluest Day" is still one of my all-time favorites to play. That ending-lick to the verse involving the 10th string of the big spread chord walking-down to open, "gets me" every time! That instrumental is a terrific example of enduring the test of time. It's just as modern and contemporary today as it was back in the 60's!
