What is the general consensus for cap value for tone pot. I've used 22s and 47s(?) on my lap steels but I'm out, need to order some and need some tech opinions.

Well Sonny...some of the choices are depending on whether you have single coil(s) or humbucker (s) in your lap steel. A lot of times folks prefer an .047 with single coils and .022 with humbuckers. But there's no law that says you have to stick to those values. I have single coil guitars and tried .039 and .033 with mixed results. A lot depends on what your ears like. I usually come back to .047 because it lets more low end thru. YMMV,I use 2 short jumper wires with alligator clips to hear the differences before soldering.

I put .047 in my Les Paul Custom about a hundred years ago and that worked great for me.
