My compensator on the legrande III has little thumbwheels, springs, and a keeper collar. The E string goes sharp, measurably, not really audibly when A or B activated. In an attempt to make tuning perfectly stable (why have the feature if not)......

Backing out the thumbscrew makes E even sharper, whereas I thought it would let E 'cabinet drop' more . Tightening it makes E flatter, but I reach the thumbscrew limit and its still sharp. I dont know whats next: I cant find another place to go except change the bellcrank hole of the compensator rod. But to pull more (i guess, counterintuitively) or to pull less or am I opening a new can of worms?

Easier to ask than to experiment....Appreciate your input

Keith,

From what you're describing, it sounds like the system may be "over tuned". You may need to reposition the set collars for the three pedals and start over, making sure there is adequate slack for the compression springs. Because of the leverage ratios of the linkage to the CF lever, it doesn't take much force at all to deflect the changer axle. Your system may simply be applying too much force to the changer.

I have a PDF of the Emmons CF instruction sheet that I'd be happy to send you, if desired.

Here are a few photos of an '03 Emmons LLG III that I setup a few years ago. It has the CF on both necks. Hopefully, you can see how the E9 arrangement is supposed to be rodded.
