Don E. Curtis

Post by Richard Alderson »

Tomorrow I am going travel down from IL to the St. Louis area and spend a couple of days in Missouri, including GFI in Marshfield. Part of my itinerary will take me to Stovall's Grove. I will have a moment of silence there and remember Don E. Curtis, whom I had the pleasure of meeting and whom I saw at Stovall's. Don helped to get me started and made recommendations and answered phone calls and emails. I especially loved his C6th playing and some things he picked up from Herby Wallace that he incorporated into his courses. So here's to Stovall's and here's to Mr. Don E. Curtis. I will miss you at Stovall's Don, it won't quite be the same.

Don was a friend and monster player. He always found time to talk steel guitar and old tone bars. I miss Don and Scottys music.

Don credited me with being his first steel guitar teacher. I wish he was still here to teach me some of what he learned after those those few first lessons.
