What new product would you like to see at this years conventions? Cosmetics are important to some of us. What if you could have the front apron interchangable? How about a roller nut made of the stuff that those white bars that Bill Stafford makes? Sorry can't think of the name of it but wouldn't that give it more sustain and maybe better tone?

I'd like to see the "Pedajo", combination banjo and pedal steel.

"Pedajo", whew! at first I thought you were talking about a Prostituita (spanish) on a bicycle!

This topic is taking a sick twist.

Personally, I'd like to see a good 6 string pedal steel with a versatile, modern mechanism. All of the capabilities of a Carter or Zum with dual guitar pickups and wide string spacing.

I wish all the guitar and pickup manufactures would get together on a universal removable pickup system. I know this will never happen but my question is: Why not? Just how much would this really add to the cost of a guitar? Is there really a good reason for not doing it?

Now that's a plan!

b0b, one of our club members has a Fulawka D-6 with pedals on the front neck. He had it custom built.

How about cheap volume pots that outlast the ones we currently have. J.C.

Oddly enough, the "Pedajo"? has actually been done, strange looking contraption with stand & pedals. Shot did it in the mid 70's, I've seen it. I too, would very much like to see a universal removable "quick-change" system for pickups on all new steels. Buck Trent had pulls on his electric banjo thirty+ years ago. In addition to the Keith tuners.

I agree about a universal removable pickup system. Unfortunately the 2 existing sytems (Sierra and MSA) are incompatable with each other.

Randy:Great Idea,I don't think that it would be that hard to do.When midi first came out the manufactures "Korg,Yamaha,Oberheim"and such all got together to find something that would make different brands of synths talk to each other.I think if the pickup makers got together over lunch they could probably work it out,Stu

How bout a 10-string version of a Fender Stringmaster, complete with blender knob, that is set up for E9 & has 4 pedals (Franlin,A,B,C) & 4 knee levers...& a good changer like a Carter.

One that is built well & sounds like a real Stringmaster should sound. I'm sure people would dig'em...look at how many butchered Stringmasters show up on Ebay with remains of pedal systems...back then, people loved the tone of'em & wanted to make a pedal version...why not do it?

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!!!

Also, maybe a nice 10-string that can capture the sound of a Fender 400 for all of the Ralph Mooney & Jimmy Day fans that love their sound... but want a reliable 10-string for functionality.

Just some thoughts.

I thought Ed Naylor made a few of those, seriously!

PSG with a built-in tuner. Tunes itself once the strings are stretched. Uh!

Randy nailed it, A pickup that would change out as easy as changing a 9v battery. Different sounds for different songs, just pop one out and another in. This is not that far fetched guys, it could happen. yes it would take some planning between manufactors and some changes in build design, but the sales to the first ones to come out with it would probably triple, and thats not to mention the sales of pickups because most of us would want one of every sound that existed!! I know I would be first on the list to buy one. Inventors... start your light bulbs!!!

A good quality single neck non-pedal with the tone of a Stringmaster, good legs, ATA case, color options, all for less then $100 per string.

and also, Dave built himself a steel once with a lighted neck, was like looking at a picture on a tv screen in the dark. I never understood why he never marketed that idea. That was the coolest thing I had ever seen!!

I second the post about a steel that tunes itself. Especially after you start recording and watching your tuning real close, all instruments drift a lot over time for a variety of reasons. Servo tuning would take a lot of the drudgery out of playing and result in a lot more people being in tune for more of their playing time. You could just push the autotune button everytime there is a few minute break. Even just having this for the open tuning would be cool. Having all the pedals in the mix too would be nirvana (sp?).

Would also like to see the dobro effect built into the amplifier along with an RV-5 or Fender tube quality reverb eliminating all the outboard effects and signal losses.

Last request would be an under $200 potless volume pedal.

Don't the new MSA's have a quick-change pickup system?

A "0" pedal that works horizontally, like a lever. But nobody would bother unless the interest is there. I would use it for G# to G.
